Build around the constraint

The opportunity resembled Santiago. The conditions did not. Before a computer lesson could begin, the project had to solve for power.

A school building and students in Palmar Arriba

Care

The school in Palmar Arriba grew from the work of the Genesis School and shared its educational mission. It would have been easy to repeat the Santiago computer lab. A visit made the central difference impossible to miss: this school did not have electricity.

The useful skill remained language learning. The system around it had to change completely.

Share

A generator provided through St. Michael Lutheran Church in Fort Myers made the program possible. Instead of a fixed lab, the project used Dell laptops loaded with Rosetta Stone and other educational software.

The sequence matters. Power came first, then portable equipment, then the learning material. Each choice answered a condition in Palmar Arriba rather than reproducing what had worked somewhere else.

Grow

Palmar Arriba was an early lesson in the difference between repeating a solution and repeating a method. The Santiago project had connected computers, English, and future opportunity. In Palmar Arriba, the same connection required a generator and hardware that could be moved, stored, and used within a different physical environment.

The archive documents the plan and preserves photographs of the school, classrooms, students, and visiting team. It does not yet establish the number of laptops, the duration of the program, or what continued after the installation.

Repeat

The setting changed the design. That became the foundation’s working method: observe first, identify the actual constraint, and adapt the response to the place.

Repeat what matters. Redesign everything else.
